A striking round celtic design featuring a repeated triquetra motif and a central triskelion or trinacria design. The triquetra, or trinity, design, represents the unity of land, sea and fire. It can also represent the holy trinity of christian mythology, or the triple goddess of pagan mythology. the design is reminiscent of a viking shield, with it's intricate knotwork design. The triskelion dates back to ancient greek times- the oldest triskelion carving in ireland pre-dates the celts, but it was absorbed into celtic culture.
